Luxury Andorra: hotels, fine dining and shopping for the discerning traveller

A guide to Andorra for high-budget travellers: the Hermitage, Michelin restaurants like Ibaya and Beç, luxury shopping and premium mountain experiences.

Andorra is not Monaco or Saint-Moritz. Anyone expecting that level of luxury will likely leave disappointed. But those who come knowing what to expect will find a combination that is hard to replicate at this scale: world-class skiing, Michelin-starred dining, brand shopping with a significant tax advantage, and a mountain setting reachable from Barcelona or Madrid in a few hours. The country has been quietly building a genuine premium offer, and in 2026 there is enough critical mass to plan an entire trip around it.

Where to stay

The choice of area shapes everything. If skiing is the priority, head to the mountain. If you are combining shopping, dining and spa, the centre makes more sense.

Sport Hotel Hermitage, Soldeu

The Hermitage is without question the benchmark for luxury accommodation in Andorra. Located in Soldeu, ski-in/ski-out at Grandvalira, with a 5,000 m² spa that stands out even for non-skiers. The suites have direct mountain views. It houses two serious restaurants: Ibaya, Andorra’s only Michelin star, and Koy Hermitage, a high-end Japanese concept. If you are looking for the most complete experience available in Andorra, this is the reference point.

Grau Roig Boutique Hotel & Spa

A more intimate alternative to the Hermitage. Fewer rooms, quieter atmosphere, tucked away at the Envalira pass within Grandvalira. A good choice for couples or anyone looking for genuine mountain seclusion without compromising on quality. Also ski-in/ski-out at Grandvalira.

In the centre: Grand Plaza, MIM Meliá, Casa Serras, The Blackpine Hotel

For those combining the trip with shopping and dining in Andorra la Vella and Escaldes, staying in the centre makes more sense than going up to the mountain. The Grand Plaza is the five-star reference in the capital. MIM Meliá, in Escaldes, has a more lifestyle-oriented profile and is a short walk from Caldea. Casa Serras is the newest addition, a boutique hotel in the centre with genuine character. The Blackpine Hotel is a recently opened boutique property that has been drawing attention for its attention to detail.

Where to eat

Andorran gastronomy has changed significantly over the past decade. There are now genuinely world-class options with international recognition that can justify a trip on their own.

Ibaya, Sport Hotel Hermitage

Andorra’s only Michelin-starred restaurant, and by some distance the best on this list. Chef Jordi Grau’s cooking is a journey through rural Andorra: foal, trout, cured meats like girella and donja, trinxat, all executed with contemporary fine dining technique. Tasting menu only, in two formats. The long menu runs around €190 without drinks and lasts approximately three hours. It is worth every euro. Book well in advance, especially during ski season. For more detail on Ibaya, Beç and the rest of Andorra’s fine dining scene, see our chefs and restaurants guide.

Koy Hermitage, Sport Hotel Hermitage

Also at the Hermitage, Hideki Matsuhisa’s Japanese concept. High-level Japanese cuisine: sushi, robata, tasting menu. For those who prioritise quality Japanese food and budget is not the main consideration.

Beç, Escaldes-Engordany

Chef Rodrigo Tcardinal’s restaurant, recommended by the Michelin Guide since 2025 and named Gastronomic Ambassador of Andorra. Creative cooking that fuses sea and mountain ingredients with local produce. Fully open kitchen integrated into the dining room. Both à la carte and tasting menu with wine pairing available. Exceptional produce and outstanding service.

Celler d’en Toni, Andorra la Vella

One of the most established restaurants in the country, with a seasonal menu built around local produce. We have not visited it ourselves, but its reputation is solid and consistent over many years.

Where to shop

Andorra’s tax advantage (IGI at 4.5% versus Spain’s 21% VAT) is most noticeable on high-ticket items. In luxury clothing and watches, the saving is real, though it is worth arriving with calibrated expectations.

Luxury fashion

Viladomat Signature carries premium outdoor and lifestyle brands such as Canada Goose and Moncler at competitive prices. For urban luxury fashion, KÚU pitches higher: Ami, Golden Goose and similar brands. Pollyanna, part of the same group, offers a slightly more accessible but equally curated selection. All are located in the centre.

Watches and jewellery

Pons 1845 is the only official Rolex distributor in Andorra, with three boutiques across the Principality and over a century of expertise in high watchmaking. Bàsic Mercat and Mercat del Diamant, both on Avinguda Meritxell, carry a wide selection of brands: Breitling, Chanel, Chaumet, Messika, Omega. The Embassy combines Swiss jewellery on the upper floor with Nandu Jubany’s Diamant restaurant on the ground floor.

One important note: for high-end watches, the price difference compared to Spain is not always as clear-cut as with perfumes or tobacco. Those arriving from outside the EU who can claim tax-free in Spain may find prices comparable or even lower there. Worth checking before you buy.

Premium drinks

Cava Benito is the go-to for quality wines, whiskies and cavas. A wide and knowledgeable selection for those looking to take home something beyond supermarket spirits.

Cigars

The Cigar Shop is well regarded for one of the best selections of cigars in the country. Worth a visit for any serious aficionado.

Spa and wellness

Sport Hotel Hermitage Spa

5,000 m² of facilities, making it the most complete spa in Andorra and one of the Hermitage’s strongest selling points. Access is possible without staying at the hotel, though availability varies by season. The classic combination is a day on the slopes followed by an afternoon in the spa.

Inúu

For a visitor focused on luxury, Caldea’s scale and busy atmosphere make it less suited to the profile. Inúu, attached to Caldea but with separate access, is the premium offer within the same complex. More intimate, more curated, and a better fit for those looking for something quieter.

Mountain experiences

Andorra Selected, Andorra Turisme’s premium programme, brings together several mountain experiences worth flagging, though we have not tried them ourselves.

Top Class by Grandvalira Resorts offers private instructor days at Soldeu, for those who want to improve their technique or simply ski with dedicated attention rather than joining a group class.

Grandvalira Mountain Club is an exclusive space at El Tarter within Grandvalira, designed for those who want comfort and privacy on the mountain. Personalised services and privileges within the resort.

Epic Andorra operates from Grau Roig and specialises in off-the-beaten-track mountain experiences. For anyone looking beyond conventional skiing, it is worth exploring their offer.

When to come

Ski season, December to March, is when the premium offer makes most sense: the Hermitage restaurants are running at full capacity, the slopes are in condition and the country is at its most animated. Christmas is peak demand and mountain hotels fill up well in advance.

Summer shifts the focus: without snow, the emphasis moves to gastronomy, shopping and mountain hiking. The centre restaurants remain open and the city is noticeably quieter than in winter.
